WNR proposes legal heavyweight from Dentons for Marine XI arbitration with Brazzaville

Engaged in proceedings against the Congolese state atthe international arbitration tribunal ICSID since 12 May,the British firm World Natural Resources (WNR) hasalready chosen its judge to sit on the panel. According toour information, it has put forward the name of BartonLegum, who is currently the Global Co-Chair, Litigationand Dispute Resolution at the international law firmDentons. Congo has yet to respond or nominate its ownjudge. WNR has accused the Congolese authorities ofillegitimately stripping it of its Marine XI licence, a movewhich Brazzaville has justified on the grounds that thefirm failed to fulfil its financial obligations on the licence(AI, 19/05/21).
