BP staff prepare for forced exit ahead of ENI merger

As the two firms are about to set up a joint entity in Angola, employees of the British major expect to be laid off with no hope of a transfer. The atmosphere has been gloomy within BP's subsidiary in Angola since the 19 May announcement of the merger of the British major's activities with its Italian counterpart ENI. BP has put most of its activities in Luanda on hold. This is enough worry some 1,000 BP employees in Angola (70% of whom are local), who do not expect to be transferred to ENI or to another BP subsidiary. Several have already resigned. When contacted, BP did not respond to our questions.
