摘要

Nairobi-based fintech Cellulant Corp is setting its sights on Morocco and its burgeoning mobile and online payments market. The group founded by Kenyan Kennedy Njoroge and Nigerian Bolaji Akinboro has just finished setting up its subsidiary Cellulant Morocco in Casablanca. It is headed by Meriem Belkaid, who joined the group two years ago to prepare for this venture. Cellulant has carved out a solid place for itself in the African mobile money landscape through its Tingg transaction management platform. Like Kenya's giant MPesa, Tingg allows users to transfer money or pay water or electricity bills. It can also be used to pay for services from web giants such as Facebook, Booking.com or Deezer. The service is available in about 30 countries and Cellulant is present in ten countries, most of them English-speaking, including Nigeria, Kenya, and Uganda. The group, which claims to have processed 150m transactions last year, is now looking to establish itself throughout the Maghreb and in several French-speaking countries in West Africa.
