UN's Green Climate Fund asked to stump up $340m for solar energy

The UN's Green Climate Fund (GCF) has been asked to contribute $340m to the Desert to Power initiative to help solar energy projects in the G5 Sahel countries (Mali, Chad, Niger, Mauritania, and Burkina Faso). That is in addition to the $480m expected from the African Development Bank (AfDB). Other donors and private investors are expected to contribute an additional $480m, bringing the hoped-for total to $1.25bn.
