Jirama: Rajoelina plays peacemaker to keep donors sweet

When he received Vonjy Andriamanga and Solo Andriamanampisoa - respectively Jirama's CEO and board chairman - on 1 September, President Andry Rajoelina was less concerned about restoring calm within the parastatal electricity company than about preventing alarm bells ringing at the World Bank, which is set to provide Madagascar with new disbursements. Andriamanga and Andriamanampisoa are battling for control of Jirama. The CEO is about to unveil a new organigram that gives prime slots to his allies, just as the chairman is sticking targets on their backs. But Rajoelina has little interest in this internal battle and has placated the two camps more out of expedience than a desire for justice.
