On 24 July, the US company Africa Growth Corp (AFGC) filed a complaint against the Angolan state before a court in Florida in which it accuses Luanda of repeatedly hacking into its US-domiciled computer servers. According to the complaint, the Angolan state hacked into the computers to recover confidential documents and intercept emails between AFGC and its Florida-based lawyers from Shutts & Bowen. The Angolan state has been embroiled in a series of disputes with AFGC since 2017, when the US firm accused it of expropriating $55m worth of luxury property in Luanda and sought compensation. Unsuccessful in all its legal proceedings filed through Angolan courts, AFGC turned to the US court in July 2019, filing a complaint for breach of an out-ofcourt settlement.
