Though it is the lifeblood of the Ivorian economy, cocoa is no longer a major source of business for French banks. Banque internationale pour le Commerce et pour l'industrie de Côte d'Ivoire (BICICI), the BNP subsidiary run by the Ivorian Yao Kouassi, is currently managing not a single account for the Conseil Café Cacao (CCC). As for Société Générale Côte d'ivoire (SGCI), a subsidiary of Société Générale presided over by the Frenchman Ayméric Villebrun and the country's leading bank with a market share of nearly 18%, it holds only FCFA 497m of CCC's funds, which equates to less than one million euros. This despite the fact the cocoa market was estimated to be worth FCFA 30.745bn (€46.9 m) overall in the second quarter of 2020.
