Trasta Energy and Libya choose their arbitratrors for battle royale over Ras Lanuf refinery

The legal battle to be fought between Emirati company Trasta Energy and Libya before the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague in the Netherlands is taking shape. Trasta has since 2011 been the operator of the Ras Lanuf oil refinery (220,000 bpd), which has been at a standstill since 2013. The company has already lost two arbitration claims against Libya's National Oil Corp before the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) but is now taking direct action against the Libyan state, which it accuses of having failed to take adequate measures to protect the refinery after the start of the civil war in Libya in 2011 (Africa Intelligence, 28/07/20).
