Guinean registered African International Partnership, which applied on 26 August to prospect for bauxite in the Dubréka area, north of Conakry, is a grouping of several companies. One of the main firms involved in the venture is China's Hangzhou Jinjiang Group. To press its case with the Guinean authorities, the company, which is based in the province of Zhejiang, can point out that it is one of China's biggest producers of aluminium, which comes from bauxite. Hangzhou Jinjiang also builds power stations using electricity produced from waste matter, while Guinea is cruelly short of energy. The group is also active in chemicals, textiles, medical equipment and construction, and, since 2017, has been active in fast-growing LCD screen backlighting technology.
