Turkish influence comes under fire in presidential campaign

Presidential candidate Abshir Aden Ferro, the founder of London-based security company Fort Roche, is calling for the elections, which are currently due to take place in February 2021, to be postponed for two years. He is also calling for a change in the "4.5" electoral system, which gives clan leaders a disproportionate amount of influence. In his contacts with Western leaders, he has also been forthright in condemning the influence being exercised by the regime of Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Somalia, which has consistenly supported incumbent president Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed Farmajo, and is suspected of having opened channels of communication with the insurgent Al-Shabaab movement. On 24 September, he was a guest of the French National Assembly's "Fraternelle", which gathers senators and congressman who are Freemasons and is headed by Christophe Frassa, the right-wing Les Republicains representative for French citizens living abroad.
