Kosmos comes to Ophir Energy’s rescue

British firm Ophir Energy, which wasawarded the Equatorial Guinean offshorelicence EG-24 as part the Ronda 2016licensing round, has just completed a 3Dseismic survey of the block entirely fundedby US firm Kosmos Energy. In exchange,the latter took a 40% stake in the permitseveral months ago. If the two oil firmsdecide to launch into a second explorationperiod, the drilling will also be for themost part funded by Kosmos Energy. TheAmerican firm began building itsEquatorial Guinean portfolio in 2017 whenit teamed up with Trident Energy to buyCeiba and Okume fields, previously operatedby Hess (AEI 803).
