UGANDA Turf war between Mitsui and Cnooc for GTL contract

Japan’s trading colossus Mitsui andChinese oil major Cnooc, via its subsidiaryCnooc EnergyTech, are in a tug of war inUganda to pick up a future gas to liquid(GTL) contract. According to our information,a delegation led by Kenyan nationalJackline Oyoo, head of strategic investmentsin East Africa for Mitsui, recentlytravelled to Entebbe to meet with Ugandanofficials, including Frank Tuhirirwe, whois in charge of downstream activities withinthe ministry of energy. Both sides spoke ofhow GTL could be developed from oil fieldsalong the Ugandan side of Lake Albert.
