Russian oil & gas giant Rosneft,headed by Igor Sechin, former viceprime minister and Vladimir Putin’sright-hand-man, has enjoyed unwaveringhelp from the Russian governmentto make waves across the continent( AEI 814 and AEI 818) and nowmake a strong comeback in Gabon. Thiswas the only country where the firm hastaken a hit. Russia’s ambassador toGabon, Dmitri Kourakov, has been movingevery muscle to help Rosneft pickup permits and trading contracts in thecountry. Russian president Vladimir Putinhimself mentioned the company on twooccasions when he met with Gabonesehead of state Ali Bongo on July 14 and17 on the fringe of the Football WorldCub hosted in Russia.
