Centennial celebrations to mark the first flight in Paris, on October 231906, of pioneering Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, will begin a year early at this year's Le Bourget air show. Contrasting with the latest Brazilian aircraft on display, the Legacy business jet, the ERJ 175 and ERJ 195 regional jetliners, will be a full size replica of Santos-Dumonts's original legend, the 14 Bis biplane. One of three new flying replicas built in Brazil, sponsored by Embraer with the assistance of the Brazilian Air Force, the Paris example will be used to promote 'Brazil Year in France' before joining the historic collection of early aircraft at the Musee de l'Air et de l'Espace on permanent display. In the case of the Paris Air Show, Embraer decided to use the event to launch its plan to introduce a new family of Light Jet (LJ) and Very Light Jet (VLJ) business aircraft. This is seen as essential to exploit a huge bizjet market that is expected to open up over the next ten years and the company plans to create a family to position itself as a major supplier as demand increases.
