New civil UAV test centre launched in UK

On 9 September the new UK National Aeronautical Centre (NAC) was officially launched as the world's first testing facility for civil unmanned aircraft. Created through a partnership between West Wales Airport at Aberporth and Newquay Cornwall Airport, the two sites will offer airside accommodation for large and small unmanned platforms together with access to up to 3,000 sq miles of segregated airspace for UAV testing. In particular the addition of Newquay Cornwall Airport with a 2,700m runway opens up the potential for testing of larger, more sophisticated UAVs.
