Perseverance pays off with a Mars landing

On 18 February at 20:55GMT, NASA's Perseverance rover successfully landed on Mars, touching down in the Jezero crater. It had followed closely behind China's Tianwen-1 spacecraft which inserted itself into Martian orbit on 10 February, as well as the UAE Hope probe, which arrived in Mars orbil a day earlier, becoming the first Arab misson to reach Mars. Tianwen-1 is now set to survey the planet for about two months, before deploying a lander and a rover to the surface. Perseverance, the heaviest-ever Martian lander, will now explore the planet for two years as well as deploying the Ingenuity mini-helicopter to make the first powered flight on another world.
