Richard Turner became group marketing director of Rolls-Royce plc in November 1991 and was appointed to the Board of Rolls-Royce plc in January 1992. He is also a director of Rolls-Royce North America. Turner graduated from the University of Manchester (U.K.) with a B.A. in politics and modern history. He joined Rolls-Royce in 1965; appointments included a number of positions in sales, marketing, and contracts, and he was based in the U.S. for four years during the 1970s. From 1986 to 1988 he was commercial director—civil engines, responsible for sales, marketing, and commercial operations for Rolls-Royce civil engines worldwide. In 1988 he was appointed group marketing director and a member of the board of STC plc and was responsible for all STC Group sales and marketing in telecommunications and information systems. Turner is a member of the Council of the Society of British Aerospace Companies (president 1994-1995) and a fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society. He was a non-executive director of British Steel plc from January 1994 to October 1999 and was appointed a non-executive director of Corus Group plc (the successor to British Steel) in September 1999. He became a non-executive director of Senior plc in July 1996 and is a member of the Board of British Trade International and Chairman of its Sectors Committee. He is also a member of the Singapore British Business Council (deputy U.K. chairman), the Indonesian British Business Council, and Partnership Korea.
