With rapidly advancing technologies in aerospace, private flying is being transformed almost beyond recognition. Recently invited to fly a new-generation reinforced-glassfibre four-seat lightplane, in the shapely form of a Canadian-built Diamond Star, powered by a 180 h.p. Lycoming engine, I found it equipped with fully digitised and integrated flat-screen avionics systems, with only three back-up mechanical instruments as instantly recognisable features.
