The recentflak in the national press, about HRH Prince William's use of an RAF helicopter to fly to a party and land near his girl-friend's house during his recent air force training, is outrageous. The cost of operating military aircraft is such that all flights are subject to the strictest criteria. They must be essential for operational or training purposes; and no trainee pilot would ever take off without the approval and authorisation of a superior officer. Prince William was not deviating from his required training curriculum or costing the taxpayer an extra penny-piece. He was, in fact, following in the footsteps of countless young and not-so-young RAF pilots over the last 90 years.
