June Bug Rides Again

During august 1939, my father, Eddie J. Riding (EJR), visited Clyst Honiton, Christchurch, High Post, Portsmouth, Hanworth, Gatwick, Broxbourne and Maylands aerodromes. The long drive out to Clyst Honiton, now Exeter Airport, rewarded him with the sight of two very rare aeroplanes, Shapley Kitti-wakeG-AERP and Surrey A.L.I G-AALP. The former looked like a creation of Alfred Bestall, the artist who best illustrated the Rupert Bear annuals! The brainchild of E.S. Shapley, it was a side-by-side two-seater with a gull wing.
