In 1940, Tony Iveson flew Spitfires in the Battle of Britain. After time overseas, he was posted, in 1944, to 617 Squadron, the Dam Busters. Throughout the war, the formidable battleship, the Tirpitz, had required constant attention from the Allies, which is why Churchill demanded of f Arthur Harris i that it be sunk. For the third and final raid,rnon the battleship on 12th November, 29 Lancasters took off from Lossiemouth.rnIn the attack, which lasted just three minutes, two Tallboy bombs scored direct hits. Ten minutes later, the Tirpitz capsized and sunk.
