Various schemea were proposed for the Victor Mk 2, butfinally it was agreed to extend the span, necessary tornincrease the height over target, and to install the then radical Rolls-Royce Conway bypass engine. It was not ideal for this purpose; the Bristol Olympus gave a better altitude performance, but was earmarked for the Vulcan.rnAlthough the Conway's sea-level thrust was approximately double that of the Mk l's Sapphire, it fell off more rapidly at high altitudes, despite fuel consumption per pound of thrust being better.
