The final farewell

Shigemitsu Saito (seen RIGHT in the winter of 1944) was an IJNAF Senior Chief Petty Officer at Hyakurihara air base helping train young pilots in basic flight techniques and "crash-diving" tactics in the last few months of the war, and saw off many of those who perished in the Okinawa campaign. At the age of 19 in late 1944, he was ordered to undertake instruction duties after only a year of regular IJNAF flight service.
