摘要

Although the new 29,600ft_2 Aviation Display Hall at the Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT) in Auckland, New Zealand, is not due be officially opened until November 11, it has already attracted large crowds since it was opened to the public on September 9 to coincide with the start of the Rugby World Cup. Built at a cost of NZ$18.5 million, the hall is New Zealand's largest clear-span wooden structure, and more than doubles the undercover display space for MOTAT's world-class aircraft collection. It now houses 25 MOTAT aircraft, including Avro Lancaster VII NX665, Lockheed Hudson NZ2031, which had been under restoration in MOTAT's Second World War blister hangar, and Douglas DC-3 ZK-BQK, which had been exhibited outside since 1973. Restoration of Short Solent IV ZK-AMO and Short Sunderland V NZ2305 is under way, the latter having been displayed outside for 44 years. It is hoped that the two flying-boats will be moved into the building during April 2012.
