On may 4 IN Green Park, central London, the foundation stone for the Bomber Command Memorial was laid during a ceremony attended by the Duke of Gloucester. The memorial, which will commemorate the 55,573 Bomber Command airmen killed during the war, is due to be completed by June 2012. Among the distinguished guests were several Bomber Command veterans, pop star Robin Gibb, who has spearheaded the Bomber Command Memorial Campaign for the past three years, and mobile-phone entrepreneur John Caudwell, the principal donor to the campaign.
