Immediately following the first flight of Meteor F.I EE210, the editorial in The Aeroplane of January 14,1944, stated, in part: "The use of jets to propel aeroplanes has greater possibilities than any other development in the history of aeronautics. That Great Britain has played so great a part in the evolution of this new method of propulsion, and that an Englishman - Group Captain Frank Whittle, CBE - has been so largely responsible for its design, is reason for justifiable pride. "More important than any discussion on the detailed development of jet propulsion is the fact that it will have far-reaching effects on the basic layout, aerodynamic characteristics and structural arrangements of aircraft of the future. No official release of detailed information can be expected at present, but readers of The Aeroplane will appreciate that no single feature of aircraft will remain unaffected by the use of jets instead of airscrews."
