Squadron Leader John Ramsay 'Jock' Maitland, DFC. MBE, 1925-2012

Korean war MiG-killer and founder of the famous Biggin Hill Air Fair, J.R. "Jock" Maitland, died in a nursing home near Westerham, Kent, on March 16, aged 87. Jock grew up near Edinburgh, his love of aviation beingsparked by the sight of Hawker Fury and Hart biplanes flyingfrom RAFTurnhouse.Joining the RAF in 1942, he trained on North American Harvards and Avro Ansons, and went on to fly Supermarine Spitfires.
