Letter of the Month: Mew Gull delight

Sir, How wonderful to see David Beale's Mew Gull ready for flight (News, Aeroplane September). When Martin Barraclough and I started on the reconstruction of Alex Henshaw's Mew, G-AEXF, in the 1970s I was lucky enough to have the services of Brian Mann, an excellent draughtsman and aircraft enthusiast, and it is he who should have the credit for the drawings mentioned in the news story. The aircraft had been modified by Jack Cross, firstly for Alex Henshaw's 1938 King's Cup and subsequently for his epic flight to Cape Town and back in early 1939. It was further modified for better pilot visibility after the war prior to deteriorating into the state in which we acquired it.
