The Czechoslovak company Benes-Mraz was founded in Chocen in March 1935 by aircraft designer Ing. P. Benes and Ing. J. Mraz, an industrialist and one of the founders of the Avia company who was responsible with Ing. M. Haji for the Avia BH series. Benes later became chief designer of CKD Praga. Benes-Mraz produced several types in the 1930s, and between 1937 and 1938 its light aircraft established several international speed and height records. Here we present several of the types, including the Be 50 and 51 Beta Minor, 68 of which appeared on the Czech register. A side-by-side two-seat light cabin monoplane of wooden construction for training or touring, it had a Walter Minor 85 h.p. inline engine giving a speed of around 125 m.p.h.
