If you had asked most people who have lived around the Farnborough or Fleet area in Hampshire during the past 50 years about the National Gas Turbine Establishment (NGTE), very few would have known what you were talking about. Maybe, if Cell 2 had been running, they would have seen a great deal of steam rising from the woods but this was a Government Establishment, and many things happened there which would never be explained, would they? This series of articles will describe the history of Pyestock, just north of Farnborough, and the hardware and operation of the Test Cells that were developed there.
