Curtiss P-40E Warhawk 41-5709 has been acquired from Don Brooks' Liberty Foundation by Walter Bowe, and was delivered to Schellville Airportin Northern California during February by Liberty Foundation chief pilot Ray Fowler, reports Mike Shreeve. Bowe has recently sold the beautiful Laird LC-RW300, with which he won the Reserve Antique Grand Champion trophy at the Experimental Aircraft Association show at Oshkosh, Wisconsin, in July 2012 (see News, October 2012 Aeroplane). The P-40 was recovered from the former Army Air Force airfield of Fort Randall, Cold Bay, in Alaska's Aleutian Islands, where it was abandoned following an accident on September 26,1942. Rebuilt by Tom Reilly's team, initially at Kissimmee in Florida, and latterly at Douglas, Georgia, it was completed in 2009 and registered N2416X. The fighter now has a second seat fitted, and wears the markings of Col Robert E. Scott, commander of the 23rd Fighter Group, well known for his autobiography God is my Copilot.
