The August 13,1954 issue of The Aeroplane reported the first flight of the English Electric P.1 As the acerbic caption accompanying the picture states, no flying shots of the aeroplane were made available, in contrast with the more relaxed approach from America: a flying shot of the Grumman F9F, which had made its maiden flight on July 30,1954 appeared on the following page.
