Caudron replica airborne again

The Caudron G.Ⅲ replica (F-AZMB)of the Amicale Jean-Baptiste Salis flew again at La Ferte Alais on 12 May, in the hands of Jean-Pierre Lafille. It had undergone six years of restoration and modification work, but had not flown for considerably longer than that. For some time, the aircraft was unable to perform anything more than short 'hops' at La Ferte's annual Meeting Aerien, and since 2006 had not even taxied at the show. However, replacement of its previous wing-warping control method with ailerons has now rendered it much easier to fly, as evidenced by initial tests. The structure has been strengthened and the engine - a 120hp Walter radial, in place of the original's 80hp Le Rhone rotary - also worked on.
