SHUTTLEWORTH RACE DAY

The Shuttleworth Collection's airshows have hit a very rich seam of form. Each with a distinct theme, offering varied and innovative combinations of aircraft and related ground attractions, they have produced some of the most memorable display moments of recent times. So it was again at the 2016 season-closing Race Day. When last held two years ago, many hailed this event as one of Old Warden's best ever. That the latest edition still felt fresh and different demonstrated the depth of Britain's vintage aeroplane scene, and the organisers' imagination. Playing to the place's strengths, we were treated to a marvellous range of based and visiting aircraft, the vast majority of types having some air racing connection.
