Ron Souch

Ron and his Aero Antiques company, based latterly on a farm near Southampton, turned out dozens of exquisite vintage light aeroplanes, his first being a Piper Super Cruiser 40 years ago. During an interview with Miles McCallum in 2005, Ron recalled: "My mother - and grandfather - lived next door to Bert Hinkler and supplied him with eggs and milk. It's led to a long-time respect for him - he not only flew these machines, but fixed them as well, and it's why I have an Avro Avian. Both my parents were involved with aircraft: my mother repaired Spitfire oleos during the war, and my father was an aeronautical engineer. He worked at Boscombe, doing the P-51, B-25 Mitchell and B-17 acceptance. After the war he worked on Meteor and Javelin production, and Blue [Steel] missile manufacture and installation on the Vulcan and Valiant.
