May Bank Holiday Monday in 1993 was when it all started. That inaugural one-day Flying Legends show was a fairly small affair, but the signs of something special were definitely there. In the 25th anniversary year of The Fighter Collection's 'toe in the water' exercise, its influence is not in doubt. The same goes for its worldwide reputation. Air displays at IWM Duxford were nothing new by the time Flying Legends appeared on the calendar - indeed, they had been running for two decades - but it took this one to put the venue on the international map. Aircraft operators and pilots, not to mention spectators, began beating a path to Duxford's door. The result, when Flying Legends became a two-day event in its second year, was a spectacle that set new standards. A quarter of a century on, it still does.
