A 'BOLY' FOR MONTREAL

Montreal in Quebec is not only one of the world's largest aerospace industry hubs, but it also boasts a very rich aeronautical history, dating back 111 years to Jacques de Lesseps' Bleriot XI flight over the city. It has remained at the forefront of Canadian aviation ever since. One of the region's now largely forgotten claims to fame is the fact that Fairchild Aircraft (Canada), based in nearby Longueuil, became the first company to build an all-metal, stressed-skin aircraft in Canada when it began to produce the Bolingbroke, a variant of the Bristol Blenheim, from 1939 onwards. It thus became the perhaps unlikely birthplace of nearly the entire Blenheim/Bolingbroke population still in existence today. However, for many years, no example of the type was on display in the region, a significant historical omission. This is finally about to change.
