Why did Moynet adopt the 'push-pull' tandem engine combination for his Jupiter? There was an obvious safety consideration, in that there would be no tendency for the aircraft to yaw significantly in the event of an engine failure. But a significant wartime influence also seems to have been in mind. This was the Dornier Do 335 fighter, which used the same configuration. Another noted French wartime pilot, Pierre Clostermann, had a memorable low-level encounter with one while flying a Tempest of No 3 Squadron, RAF over Germany in April 1945. Both Moynet and Clostermann were elected to the Assemblee Nationale in 1946. It is impossible to imagine that the two would not have exchanged wartime reminiscences. In addition, Clostermann became commercial director of the Max Holste company, while Moynet had been the certification test pilot on the Broussard in the early 1950s, when Clostermann was already helping his friend Max Holste get the project off the ground.
