A strange title? B-Conditions markings are used, usually for a transitory period, to identify British aircraft engaged in flight-testing, ferrying or demonstration purposes before being put onto either the civil or military register. To compare them with the motor industry's trade plates is probably a simplification, but that is essentially what they are. This hugely worthwhile volume is an outgrowth of the author's 1978 work of the same name for the Merseyside Aviation Society although now in hardback, greatly expanded and brought up to date.
