Blue Streak

Blue Streak was the all-British attempt to produce a medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM) to succeed the Douglas Thor that then equipped 20 RAF Bomber Command squadrons on airfields in the eastern part of Britain. Author Boyes has already covered the latter subject in his Project Emily: Thor IRBM and the RAF (Tempus, 2008). Thor was essentially an above-ground system. This had political value in enhancing its visibility, but gave no realistic chance of its surviving a Soviet first strike, de Havilland's Blue Streak, then, would have to be compatible with an underground launch site.
