Surplus wartime AAF P-47s went to several further air arms once hostilities were over. From 1950 onwards, Italy's Aeronautica Militare received, according to most sources, 100 F-47Ds for the 5° Stormo and 51° Stormo. They served until late 1953. Both P-47D and P-47N models were supplied to the Chinese Nationalist Air Force and saw action during the Chinese civil war, the last reportedly soldiering on until the late 1950s. Delivered during 1952-53, Cuba's F-47Ds were much engaged on the front line against the rebels led by Fidel Castro, providing close support to government ground forces. Following their arrival in 1954, the Nicaraguan Air Force's small number of F-47Ns were immediately employed by Guatemalan rebels in their CIA-backed coup against the country's government.
