Every now and then, someone comes up with an idea that captures the public imagination. People are fired up with enthusiasm for something they had probably never considered before. Today, it is more likely to be television and social media that bring such new concepts to people's attention. However, on 2 November 1934 it was the publication of a book by a Frenchman named Henri Mignet, imaginatively titled Le Sport de I'Air, in which he made the astonishing claim that, "if you can nail together a packing case, you can construct your own aeroplane."
