A flame-resistant fabric that is lightweight and complies with the relevant industrial standards for such personal protection garments has been developed by Invista of Wichita, Kansas, USA.The company says that conventional lightweight fabrics -those with areai densities of around 220 g·m~2 (around six-and-a-half ounces per square yard) - struggle to meet the requirements of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards 70E (Standard for electrical safety in the workplace) and 2112 (Standard on flame-resistant clothing for protection of industrial personnelagainst short-duration thermal exposures from fire). In US Patent 2018/0274136, Invista claims to have solved this problem with its fabric, which it says can withstand industrial laundering, is comfortable to wear and is relatively inexpensive.
