摘要

A major challenge in designing embedded video and image processing systems is the need to simultaneously manage performance and cost requirements while maintaining tight development schedules. Traditional development approaches, such as hand coding, are time-consuming, error-prone and difficult to optimize. Model-Based Design saves time and reduces error by enabling a single model to be used for simulation, rapid design iterations, hardware-in-the-loop testing and code generation for implementation to production hardware. Text-based specifications are difficult to manage over frequent design iterations and are often ambiguous, resulting in more meetings between system and implementation teams and, potentially, products that do not meet their requirements. With hand coding, the design must be recoded and the code recompiled, rerun and debugged at each iteration. Any hardware design change requires such an extensive recoding effort that it is often easier to start from scratch.
