摘要

In recent years, the business and political world has been rocked by scandals involving deceptions perpetrated by high-ranking executives and government leaders. Whether deception is more or less prevalent today than in the past is an empirical question, but one that elicits more interesting theoretical questions for social scientists: What are the conditions that give rise to deception, and under what conditions is deception normalized and expected? These are the kinds of questions that Shulman aims to address, and does successfully, in From Hire to Liar.
