Neighbor Networks: Competitive Advantage Local and Personal

Is there a theorist working anywhere across the organizational sciences' landscape as bold and influential as Ron Burt? Whether researching psychophysics, structural equivalence, structural holes, or a host of other network-related phenomena, his ideas never fail to stir debate and controversy in the best tradition of scientific inquiry. Over the scope of his career, Burt has ranged across many different areas, including the invisible college of elite experts in scientific publishing, American manufacturing, innovation adoption, and, more recently, issues concerned with brokerage in organizations. One thing has been consistent throughout this work, however, and that has been an emphasis (unusual among structural network researchers) on the strategic intent of actors.
