A Bevy of Awards at ISDC® 2018

Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon and founder of Blue Origin, is the winner of the 2018 Gerard K. O'Neill Award for Space Settlement Advocacy. Tasha O'Neill, the widow of Gerard K O'Neill and a well-known photographer, presented the award to him at the dinner on Friday, May 25th, 2018. This award honors Bezos' public support of space settlement as a major goal for humanity and the work he has done to help make space settlement possible by founding and leading Blue Origin. The company is named after the origin of life and humankind: Earth. His New Shepard rocket, named after astronaut Alan Shepard, was the first rocket to land safely after reaching space in the fall of 2015. Blue Origin has now expanded into a large factory at Cape Canaveral and is preparing to start production of the giant New Glenn booster, named after John Glenn, which will help introduce a new era of reusable rockets, eventually creating a massive reduction in launch costs.
