As a new type of correlator, the acousto-optic (AO) correlator is finding application in spread spectrum system to improve the system processing gain. In this paper, an innovative architectural AO correlation sys- tem-hybrid angularly multiplexed AO correlation system is presented. The method to get much higher correlation processing gain and to detect the signal from noise effectively is discussed. The system has been realized experimentally. The applications of AO correlators in spread spectrum systems are mentioned. The probability of intercept of the system can reach 100/100.
