User experience and e-resource integration: A conference report on the 2015 LITA Forum

From November 12 to 15,2015, librarians from varied institutional backgrounds gathered in Minneapolis under the auspices of the Library and Information Technology Association (LITA), a division of the American Library Association, to share ideas and innovations related to library technologies. The LITA Forum offered a veritable smorgasbord of User Experience (UX)-focused presentations. UX is a design method that stresses the importance of the users attitudes and emotions in their use (or lack of use) of any system or service, for instance, a library's webpage or search system. Many strong LITA Forum offerings provided a powerful contextual anchor to this design method, its applications, and its implications. While designers of physical spaces and websites commonly consider user experiences, UX tends to feature less prominently in library management of electronic resources: book platforms, journal aggregators, discovery layers, and other out-of-the-box products. The LITA Forum revealed not only how best to evaluate UX but also how to implement it, enhancing library user experiences through integration of electronic resources and other content delivery platforms.
