As members of our library's Staff Development Committee, we were often approached by library staff at the end of the year who wanted to know the name of the training we went to a couple of months ago. They would ask this as they prepared for annual performance evaluations. The committee members began asking themselves: How can we help staff keep track of the staff development activities they have participated in during the year? And how do we motivate library staff to participate in staff development activities? To answer these questions, our committee began researching digital badges and their potential for motivating staff and keeping track of their activities.
